Photographing Your Artwork: A Simple Setup That Works

The setup

• Light: near a window, indirect daylight — never flash, never mixed lighting
• Position: camera square-on to the work; edges parallel in the frame
• Background: one neutral wall or board for every piece — consistency reads as care
• Phone is fine: clean the lens, lock exposure, shoot larger than you need

Editing without cheating

Crop to the work, straighten, and correct white balance until the photo matches the piece in daylight. Stop there. Boosting saturation or contrast misrepresents the work — and interviews often happen with the physical piece on the table.
